Concept:

For my senior project, I wanted to showcase my character design by creating a series of animated shorts. The premise follows multiple different characters as they experience everyday interactions that cause discomfort, embarrassment and humiliation when in reality it isn’t a big deal.

For example, these shorts will include plot lines such as being sung happy birthday to, waving back to someone who wasn’t actually waving at you, and getting caught taking a selfie in public.

I want to capture the feeling of being extremely self aware when these things happen because let’s be honest…we have all probably experienced at least one of these occasions.

I chose to animate these tiny moments in life because they feel very human. We all get embarrassed! I hope to convey the universality of embarrassment and humanize these experiences that we may otherwise feel alone in. I want to show that it happens and we can laugh about it instead of letting it haunt our minds before we go to sleep!

The Oozels

What’s an Oozel you ask?

These are The Oozels!

And so is he!

The Oozles are a series of characters I created not only for this project, but for future projects as well. I wanted to create a crew that I could develop further and continue to grow. The Oozels are funky, awkward-looking and carry lots of personality!

I named them the Oozles after my last name, Ozsoy. People have said it in every incorrect way possible and I thought it would be fun to play on that.

Rough cuts/animatic

This animation is about the feeling some people get when its time to bring out the cake and awkwardly sit there as your group of friends sings you happy birthday off key.

In this animatic board I wanted to show the awkward experience of waving back to someone who wasn’t actually waving at you, but the person behind you. I feel that this is a fairly universal experience that is truly haunting.

On the left is a compilation of time lapse videos of my character design process! Typically I start on paper whenever a character comes to mind and then put it into procreate where I refine it.
